wise individual once said, "There is no try. Do. Or do not." I know you're thinking NERD but I bring this quote to your attention to give context to my story. Ever since I can remember, what's given me the greatest joy has been art and creativity. Whether it was arts and crafts, pottery, writing, or doodling, bringing any idea to life through visuals and design excited me but I wasn't sure what that meant for a career. As I entered college majoring in graphic design and media communications, I used Photoshop and Illustrator for the first time and everything changed for me. Suddenly, the impossible ideas were possible.
ight out of college, I started freelancing and went into a full-time graphic design position at The Roger Smith Hotel in NYC. This was a great opportunity for me to grow my skills, stretch my wings and take advantage of my creativity as well as the hotel's many areas of opportunity to improve. I also developed skills in business development and event planning due to the unique structure of the hotels operations, I was in a role where I wore many hats. This really laid the foundation of running with design projects and executing them successsfully.
After the Roger Smith, I started at Houlihan Lawrence real estate as a Web/Graphic Designer, but didn't feel fulfilled although I was producing great work, there was an element missing which started to emerge. In reality we don't know what is best for the product, only the user can truly tell us if we're heading in the right direction or not. From my time at the Roger Smith handling events, I realized that I not only have creative talent but also great networking and interpersonal skills. It became clear that UX Design was the next chapter for me to combine my skills and become the designer I was meant to be.
he initial problem was that I knew that I was a talented web designer, but I didn't know where to direct that skill. I did a ton of research on what I wanted to do next and with a little help from friends within the industry I was directed towards the UX Immersive Program.
UX Design is the perfect mix for my background in graphic design and business development because it utilizes real data to drive the design forward at every iteration and every step of the process. There are no assumptions in UX and that is what really intrigues me. The ability to enhance the lives of others through research and design is a big deal. The apps and sites we create have the potential to affect millions of people.
The UX Immersive program is a 10-week, 400+ hour immersive program in user experience design with a focus on executing an agile UX design process on real-world companies and business problems. I worked on both solo projects as well as in a team to conduct user reasearch, wireframing, prototyping, usability testing and iterative design on 5 different projects.
What does all this mean? Why does it matter? If you are a business that's looking for someone to put in 150%, someone with unlimited design potential who can solve complex business problems, you have found your next candidate.
The projects I've worked on since include products within the Cybersecurity, E-commerce and Medical industries. Each product I've worked on has genuinely improved the experience for its target users, whether it was from a highly organized design system, enhanced visibility or a dynamic onboarding system, I can and will detect the correct method for better UX within your product. I will also utilize the most current trends within the industry to build your vision balanced with your users needs.
With 10 years of graphic design experience and a background in the marketing/business development, I'm a Senior User Experience designer that can drive your business forward through data driven solutions and beautiful user experiences.
